Glycolic Acid / AHA
Glycolic acid is the smallest molecule among the alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and was originally derived from sugar cane. It loosens the bonds between dead skin cells so they shed more easily. The result: a smoother texture, a fresher complexion and makeup that sits better on the skin.

Glycolic acid toner and liquid
The easiest way to start is with a glycolic acid toner. Apply the Glycolic Acid Toner from The Inkey List with a cotton pad after cleansing. The AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid from COSRX targets rough texture and whiteheads. Stick to two or three evenings a week for the first few weeks, then build up gradually.
AHA and BHA combined
Some toners combine AHA with BHA, such as the AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner from Some By Mi and the Green Plum Refreshing Toner: AHA + BHA from Beauty of Joseon. That way you work on the surface and inside the pore in one step. Read more about the difference under salicylic acid (BHA).
Glycolic acid body wash
An AHA can smooth the skin on your body too, for example on rough patches on your arms or legs. Use the AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Clear Body from Some By Mi in the shower. Because AHAs make skin more sensitive to sunlight, SPF during the day is a must. If you also use retinol, alternate them on different evenings.
