What is in a dip kit?
A complete dip powder kit contains the liquids and powders you need for the technique: a base that makes your nail tacky, an activator that cures the layers, a top coat for the finish and one or more powders in colour or in a neutral shade for the base. What exactly is included differs per set, so always check the product page.
How a dip manicure works
Prep your nails: shape them, push back your cuticles and clean the nail plate. Then apply a thin layer of base and dip your nail into the powder, or sprinkle the powder over the nail. Brush off the excess powder and repeat this step until you have the coverage you want. After that, finish with the activator so the layers cure, and seal with the top coat. File and buff in between for an even result.
Dipping powder without a lamp
You do not need a UV or LED lamp for dip powder: the activator does the curing. That makes a dip set an accessible starting point if you want to begin a longer-lasting manicure at home.
