Blackheads
Blackheads are pores filled with oil and dead skin cells. In open comedones this plug oxidises on contact with air and turns black; these are the familiar black dots on your nose and chin. Closed comedones are small, skin-coloured bumps. A blackhead serum with BHA and good cleansing help keep your pores clear.
Serum and cleanser for blackheads
Serum for blackheads
Salicylic acid, or BHA, is oil-soluble and can therefore penetrate the pore to loosen oil. The BHA Blackhead Power Liquid by COSRX is one of the best-known blackhead products. Start every other day and apply it to dry skin after cleansing. Always use SPF during the day.
Cleanser for blackheads
Oil dissolves in oil, so a cleansing oil is a handy first step. Massage the Ginseng Cleansing Oil by Beauty of Joseon onto dry skin for a minute before rinsing. As a second step, choose the Salicylic Acid Cleanser by The Inkey List, a face cleanser for blackheads with salicylic acid.
A mask for black dots
Once or twice a week, a clay mask is great for the T-zone. The Red Bean Refreshing Pore Mask by Beauty of Joseon feels fresh and absorbs excess oil. Don't squeeze blackheads: that quickly leaves red marks. Do you also have inflamed spots? Take a look at acne-prone skin; if your pores mainly look large, go to large pores.
