What is the difference between painting gel and gel polish?

Painting gel is firmer and stays where you put it, so you can draw lines and shapes with it that keep their edges. Gel polish is runnier and meant for covering your whole nail evenly.

Does painting gel need to go under the lamp?

Yes, you cure it under a UV or LED lamp just like gel polish. If you work with several colours on top of each other, cure in between, so the colours stay neatly separated.
