Lip Tint
A lip tint is light, watery and doesn't cover — and that is exactly the point. The colour sinks into your lips and stays there, while the product itself is barely noticeable. What is the difference with lipstick or gloss?
A lipstick puts colour on your lips; a tint leaves colour behind in your lips. That makes a tint feel lighter, cover less and be almost impossible to wipe off. A lip gloss gives shine without lasting colour, a tint does the opposite. And a lip stain is technically the same idea, but usually in a thicker formula and a more intense colour.
The Korean lip tint
The lip tint comes from the Korean beauty routine, and you can tell by the finish: no sharp edge but a soft, blurred colour that gets more intense towards the middle of your lips — the well-known gradient lip effect. Romand, Peripera, Etude House and Laka are the brands that do it best. Apply the tint in the middle of your lips and work it outwards with your finger; the less sharp the edge, the more natural it looks.
Peel off, jelly or hydrating
A peel off lip tint goes on as a gel layer, dries for a few minutes and then peels off — what is left behind is only the colour, which stays put for hours. A jelly or water tint is the lightest version: fresh, sheer and easy to wear. And there are hydrating tints with oil or hyaluronic acid in them, for when your lips feel dry quickly — those come close to a lip oil in feel.
For your cheeks too
Plenty of tints are lip and cheek tints: the same formula works as a blusher. One dot on each cheek, blended straight away with your fingers before it dries, and you have a colour that matches your lips. That is also the handiest reason to take one with you when you want to travel light.
