Lip Liner

Which lip liner colour do you choose?
The rule of thumb: pick a liner that is just a little darker than your own lip colour, or that matches exactly the lipstick you wear over it. A nude lip liner works under just about anything and is the safest first buy. A brown lip liner gives that soft, warm definition you see everywhere — lovely with a nude or toffee-coloured lip. A black lip liner is for the bold looks, and a clear or see-through lip liner only holds your gloss back without adding any colour.
How do you apply a lip liner?
Start at your cupid's bow and draw short strokes from there towards the corners of your mouth; one long line in a single movement is rarely straight. Then do your bottom lip. If you want your lips to look fuller, stay just outside your natural line — but no more than a hair's width, or it shows. Fill your whole lip in with the liner before you apply your lipstick: that layer works as a grip, so your colour stays put hours longer and doesn't bleed. With a lip gloss or a shiny lipstick that difference is biggest, because those bleed the fastest.
Matte, long-lasting or a lip liner stain?
The classic lip liner is a pencil with a waxy, matte formula — easy to blend and to correct. If you want your contour to stay visible all day, even after coffee and food, then a lip liner stain is what you're after: it leaves colour behind in the lip contour instead of on it.
