The pigments sit in a cream or gel base instead of in powder. You'll find it in a pot, in a tube with an applicator and in stick form; that last format sits separately under eyeshadow sticks. Cream eyeshadow covers better in one layer than powder does, and because nothing falls off you get no fallout on your cheeks. Some formulas are cream to powder, like the Diamond Treasures from Catrice: they go on creamy and dry down matte, so they wear like powder but behave like cream.

Cream eyeshadow in matte, shimmer and metallic
Matte cream eyeshadow gives a velvety, skin-like colour and is the safest choice for daytime and for mature lids, because shine emphasises fine lines. How to apply cream eyeshadow
Work fast, because cream eyeshadow sets and after that you won't move it:
- Start with an eyeshadow primer or a thin layer of powder, especially if your lid turns oily quickly.
- Pick up a small amount with your fingertip; your body heat softens the product.
- Work one eye at a time and blend straight away, with your finger or a synthetic eyeshadow brush.
- Build in thin layers rather than one thick one, or it will go patchy.
- To lock the colour in, dust a powder eyeshadow in the same shade over the top.
